3rd Sunday of Easter
The name of “Jesus”. Just one word, five letters, but the power it holds. There is no name that is more powerful then Jesus name.
The Sanhedrin said, “We gave you strict orders, did we not, to stop teaching in that name?” It is as if they can not even speak the name of ‘Jesus’. The apostles, now filled with the Holy Spirit, are doing amazing things in the name of Jesus.
How often do we call on the name of “Jesus”? One of the most humbling prayers if, “Jesus, have mercy on me, a sinner.” In the times of temptation, have you ever said, “In the name of Jesus Christ, be gone.” We can use the power of the name of Jesus in our lives.
There is a song that I will sing to myself sometimes when I am driving, it really gets me focused on Jesus. The title of the song is “There’s Something About That Name” by Bill and Gloria Gaither.
THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT THAT NAME
(Bill Gaither / Gloria Gaither)
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There’s just something about that name
Master, Savior, Jesus
Like the fragrance after the rain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Let all heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms shall all pass away
But there’s something about that name.
Or do we use this most beautiful and powerful name out of anger? It bothers me when I hear the name of Jesus used in that way. Or when it is used so inappropriately. This is not done with any other name.
Yet this name of ‘Jesus’ has stood the test of time. Jesus Christ should still be the center of our lives. The Roman Empire fell, yet the name of Jesus still goes on. The Catholic Church that is founded on this name, traces it’s origins to Jesus. Do we look to Jesus for strength and guidance in times of need.
I would like to again, thank all of you who played any role in the Holy Week Liturgies. I hope and pray that all of you that took part found them to be a powerful part of your spiritual practice this year. I have heard from a few of you that have said it was profound and moving. It takes a lot of people behind the scene, most of all, it take the Holy Spirit moving and the name of Jesus Christ.
Lastly I would ask you to keep Archbishop-Delegate Hebda in your prayers. He will be installed on May 13th. Pray he will be able to lead this Archdiocese into healing and new strength. Please pray also for a fair and just resolution of the claims that have been filed. We will not be able to move forward as a local church (Archdiocese), until these claims from long ago are resolved.
